ۿ۴ýUniversity has been named one of the “Great 48” that will vie for the championship title at the 30th annual Honda Campus All-Star Challenge (HCASC) — America’s premier academic competition for ۿ۴ý attending historical black colleges and universities.

The HCASC National Championship Tournament, to be held April 13-17, 2019, on the American Honda campus in Torrance, California, will pit HBCU teams against each other by challenging their knowledge of history, science, literature, religion, the arts and pop culture. The winning team will claim the HCASC top prize — a $75,000 institutional grant from Honda.

ۿ۴ýۿ۴ý competing in the national championship team are the same as those who competed at the regional level during February’s HCASC’s regional qualifying tournament, held at Morehouse College. They include Mya Green, a senior from Atlanta majoring in animal science; Robert Henderson, a senior from Atmore, Alabama, majoring in animal science; Maurice Kendrick, a junior from Lake Mary, Florida, majoring in occupational therapy; and Kailah Trice, a sophomore from Atlanta majoring in sociology. Dr. Worth Hayes, an associate professor in the Department of History and Political Science, coaches the team.

“HCASC exemplifies the aims of a liberal arts education by encouraging ۿ۴ý to develop a mastery in multiple academic fields,” says Hayes. “ۿ۴ýhas a rich history in the program, starting with retired Dean of Students Peter J. Spears who was one of the inaugural coaches when HCASC started thirty years ago. The current team hopes to build on this strong foundation,” he continued.

The Honda Campus All-Star Challenge connects the nation's best and brightest HBCU ۿ۴ý who expand their scope of knowledge; learn teamwork and sportsmanship; and develop a bond with their fellow competitors. The fast-paced buzzer competition highlights ۿ۴ý’ academic prowess, as well as their ability to answer questions and work as a team. Outside of game play, the year-round program provides community service activities, leadership, networking opportunities and mentorship.

“For 30 years, Honda Campus All-Star Challenge has provided a platform for the nation’s top HBCU ۿ۴ý to advance their dreams,” said Steve Morikawa, vice president of corporate relations and social responsibility at American Honda. “Honda congratulates the ‘Great 48’ for their incredible work ethic, teamwork and competitive spirit. We look forward to an exciting National Championship Tournament and crowning the 2019 HCASC National Champion in April.”

The 2019 Honda Campus All-Star Challenge finals will be live-streamed on Tuesday, April 16 starting at 12:00 p.m. ET. To view the live stream and for more information about HCASC, including the full list of the 48 qualifying teams, visit .
