After two years spent in a pandemic, ۿ۴ýUniversity has prepared for a virtual homecoming once again. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to join alumni worldwide the week of Oct. 20 - 24 for its second annual virtual homecoming celebration, highlighting 97 years of ۿ۴ýExcellence. Given the recent surge in the delta variant of COVID-19, the University is canceling in-person components of many of its events that attract large crowds from outside ۿ۴ýUniversity.
The virtual Homecoming week, themed “Building the future with Transformational Strategies,” will feature many of its traditions, including celebrating the class reunions of 1986, 1991, 1996, 2001, 2006, 2011, and 2016. In addition, the five-day hybrid and virtual homecoming week will feature a diverse range of activities for ۿ۴ý, alumni, and supporters of all ages.
Adding to the festivities this year is an alumnus, Attorney Milton Davis ’71, a native of Tuskegee, who will serve as this year’s Grand Marshal and Homecoming Convocation speaker. Davis completed a bachelor’s degree in political science at ۿ۴ýand received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Iowa’s College of Law in 1974. He has distinguished himself through a legal career spanning 43 years and served in the military, public and private sectors.
Some of Davis’ notable career accomplishments include being among the first African Americans in Alabama to be named a state assistant attorney general. He received national acclaim for his role in securing the full pardon for Clarence Norris, the last known surviving “Scottsboro Boy,” on the basis of innocence. In addition, his career highlights also include 25 years of service in the U.S. Air Force Reserves Judge Advocate General Corps, through which he ultimately attained the rank of lieutenant colonel. He taught business courses as an adjunct professor in Tuskegee’s Andrew F. Brimmer College of Business and Information Science. Davis will serve as the guest speaker during the annual homecoming convocation held on Sunday, Oct. 24.
The virtual homecoming celebration will include a Strategic Plan Update by President Dr. Charlotte Morris, the live gala of Mister and Miss ۿ۴ýUniversity, and more. All virtual activities are free (except the homecoming step show, which costs $15) and will take place on the ۿ۴ýUniversity online events platform and social media feeds.
Registered participants will have a chance to hear from university officials, participate in curated events, and interact with other alumni. The week will also include the annual Homecoming game between ۿ۴ýUniversity and Lane College at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23.
