The Taylor School of Architecture and Construction
Science (TSACS)Ìýis named after Robert Robinson Taylor,
the first accreditedÌýAfrican-American architect, and
the first Black to receive anÌýArchitecture degree
from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Taylor is credited with developing the school’s program in
architecture and was often placed in charge of the day-to-day
operation of the school in the absence of the founder andÌýfirst
President, Dr. Booker T. Washington. Robert R. TaylorÌýdesigned
³¾´Ç²õ³ÙÌýof theÌýbuildingsÌýon campus built prior to 1932.

MI TU VCIT is a historical tour that reimagines Tuskegee’s campus as it

existed from its founding in 1881 to the death of Booker T. Washington in 1915.

It is a joint, interdisciplinary project between Tuskegee’s architecture and historÌýprograms.

The tour was completed by ¿Û¿Û´«Ã½faculty and ¿Û¿Û´«Ã½ in these areas along

with the generous support of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
