OVERVIEW

¿Û¿Û´«Ã½University’s nursing program dates back to 1948, when Dr. Lillian Holland Harvey established what was then the state’s first baccalaureate degree in nursing program. Today, nationally accredited programs in Tuskegee’s School of Nursing and Allied Health lead to bachelor’s degrees in nursing, or master’s degrees in occupational therapy.

PROGRAMS

The School of Nursing and Allied Health offers undergraduate programs leading to baccalaureate degrees in Nursing, and an entry level Master’s in Occupational Therapy. These programs are designed for ¿Û¿Û´«Ã½ who wish to pursue a career in nursing or the allied health professions. ÌýAll professional disciplines are accredited by their national accrediting agencies.

To qualify for entry into the above professional programs in the School of Nursing and Allied Health, pre-professional courses are required. Each program admits pre-professional and transfer ¿Û¿Û´«Ã½ based upon available clinical facilities and the academic records of the student.Ìý

Mission Statement

The philosophical tenets of theÌýSchoolÌýofÌýNursingÌýand Allied Health (SONAH) have grown out of those that pervade the University.ÌýÌýThe School fosters the general purpose of the University which is teaching, research and service.ÌýÌýThe mission of theÌýSchoolÌýofÌýNursingÌýand Allied Health is to serve the citizens ofÌýAlabama, the nation and the global communities in the promotion of health and disease prevention.ÌýÌýThe School exists primarily to provide ¿Û¿Û´«Ã½ access to excellent and progressive baccalaureate programs in Nursing and a master’s program in Occupational Therapy.ÌýÌýÌýThe School provides innovative, interdisciplinary, and collaborative learning opportunities through partnerships within the University, local community, State ofÌýAlabamaÌýand globally for the purpose of developing a knowledge base, skills, and a practice model that targets rural, diverse, and vulnerable populations to alleviate health disparity in the 21stÌýCentury.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY PROGRAM:

  1. Accreditation Status: The Occupational Therapy Program is on Probationary Accreditation by theÌýAccreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA),

    ACOTE's Disclosure Statement regarding Probationary Accreditation Action: The occupational therapy master's program at ¿Û¿Û´«Ã½University, Tuskegee, Alabama was place on Probationary Accreditation effective December 2, 2022, for failure to document significant progress toward correction of an area of noncompliance related to 2018 Standard A.6.4 (certification exam pass rates). The program has been requested to submit a Progress Report to return the program to full compliance with the Standard within the mandated time period for correction.
