TUSKEGEE UNIVERSITY PRE-VET CLUB OPEN GOAT SHOW

¿Û¿Û´«Ã½University (TU) Pre-Vet Club holds its Open Goat Show at the ¿Û¿Û´«Ã½University Caprine Research and Education Unit annually on the third Saturday of October. The 2019 Pre-Vet Club Open Goat show will be take place on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at 1:00 PM.The show is open to all youth exhibitors under age of 19 who are residents of Alabama. Events include breeding classes, market classes, evaluation of animals, animal management skills, and showmanship.

Main objective of the show is to instill responsibility, honesty, and work ethics in youth. This event provides pleasant and fair experience of showing goats, and a sense of competition. This experience empowers youths in understanding leadership skills and help develop youth into resourceful and responsible future leaders. Additional goals are to develop a desire to gain new knowledge, skills and attitudes through real life experiences, improve skills in leadership, communication and self-expression, ability to prioritize and take pride in and embrace defeats gracefully, social interactions, decision-making and self-awareness, etc.

Program Overview

¿Û¿Û´«Ã½University has over one hundred-years history in providing comprehensive educational programs designed for life-long learning to assist youth, ¿Û¿Û´«Ã½, limited resource families, both urban and rural and other groups and organizations, to improve their quality of life in a technological global society. Through development of outreach programs that improve understanding of community problems, ¿Û¿Û´«Ã½University assists in the development of communities.

¿Û¿Û´«Ã½University Pre-Vet Club takes pride in sponsoring Youth Open Goat Show to encourage young adult to participate in such an activity that promote leadership and showmanship. These activities are character building and promote leadership skill in young adults.

There is no experience in showmanship required to participate in this program. Pre-Vet Club volunteers work with young adults and train them in different aspects of animal handling and showmanship. At the day of the event, a professional judge conducts different classes on breeding, marketing, evaluation of live animals, animal management skills, and showmanship.

Afternoon session is dedicated to showing animals and selecting winners in different categories. Young adults enjoy participating and learn lifelong skills. A day full of fun and enjoyment. Come and join us.
