The ۿ۴ýUniversity College of Veterinary Medicine (TUCVM) family has helped make the season a little merrier for the children at George Washington Carver (GWC) Elementary School located in Tuskegee.
Students, faculty and staff shared the true spirit of giving this holiday season through hosting the Fifth Annual “Toy Drive for Tots” on Dec. 13.
“The ‘Toy Drive for Tots’ is now an on-going tradition in our college and anticipated by the college’s faculty, staff and ۿ۴ý. As a continuation of the inspired vision between the veterinary ۿ۴ý and the TUCVM administration, this year’s first year class took the lead in organizing the drive, said Dr. Ruby L. Perry, dean of the college.
“The toy drive has been so successful and appreciated by the GWC’s faculty, administration and adorable children. Our ۿ۴ý, faculty and staff have been amazing as well and have truly delighted in the experience of making a difference in children lives,” Perry continued.
To ensure all 208 boys and girls in all three classes at the elementary school consisting of pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and first grade received a gift; TUCVM divided its efforts for the toy drive collection into three sections.
TUCVM’s first year class (Class of 2023) took the lead with organizing the toy drive with the other veterinary ۿ۴ý. They were also responsible for providing Santa and Santa's elves. The TUCVM faculty and staff assisted as Santa's helpers to distribute the toys to the ۿ۴ý.
Principal Norman Williams, Jr. and Counselor Gloria Clinkscales helped with the toy drive organization on the school’s end. The teachers and administration at George Washington Carver Elementary School and the Macon County School Board were appreciative that the ۿ۴ýUniversity College of Veterinary Medicine had again continued the tradition in selecting their ۿ۴ý to participate in the “Toy Drive for Tots” program.
“Thanks to the leading Class of 2023 and the college’s other ۿ۴ý, faculty and staff for again coming together to make the toy drive a success. Our ۿ۴ý who served as Santa and Santa’s elves also enjoyed the event and seeing the children get so excited in anticipation of their wrapped gift. This event is truly special as well to all of us in the College of Veterinary Medicine,” said Dr. Roslyn Casimir, TUCVM’s associate dean for academic and student affairs.
