Echocardiography

Echocardiography provides a non-invasive, dynamic assessment of cardiovascular structures and function. It helps evaluate the heart muscles, valves, and heart sac, as well as blood flow through and out of the heart.

This imaging modality complements the electrocardiogram (EKG), blood pressure and physical exam assessments of the cardiovascular system.

The most common case presentation necessitating an echocardiogram is to help further characterize a previously heard heart murmur or a previously documented heart rhythm abnormality.

Echocardiograms are ideal for performing serial evaluations of cardiac function during and after pharmacologic or therapeutic intervention. The procedure is performed in a dedicated room by highly trained faculty member
